I'm pretty attracted to the U-shaped hybrid idea, myself. I love bringing seemingly disparate ideas together. BUT... I'm also a sucker for practicality. And until I develop enough of both sides of the "U," I find it hard to see how to turn that relationship into something practical.

Because the thing is, it's not just "bravery" that's needed, it's time. The T-shaped hybrid takes relatively less time to develop because you're taking advantage of adjacent skills you're already proficient at.

@Alvin: Yeah - think that we are both practical-first people. There's a level of "trust" and "belief" that by combining disparate ideas, then something good is going to come out of it.

And totally agree with you that with the T-shaped model, the amount of time seems less. Though the counterfactual might be less time in the short-term but at what opportunity cost for the long-term. Plenty of food for thought there.
