Sometimes the people you work with can keep you on top of your game. I'm a senior software developer, but I know if any of my teammates heard me say “but, we’ve always done it this way," they would INSTANTLY rebut with "that doesn't mean we should do it that way now." They would shame me for saying something like that!

There are definitely times when I feel like saying “we’ve always done it this way," but knowing I'll get an earful, I have a strong gut reaction that forces me to look for the best solution instead.

All of this is to say, there are definitely ways to prevent narrow-mindedness as you rise up the ranks.

Actually, that's a really good point that I should've made. Not just what you can do but how you can set yourself up for success by the people that you work with. Culture is important and a good topic for an upcoming issue. Thanks!
